Hi, I’m Katie.
I’m a writer, researcher, and editor currently based in San Francisco.
I specialize in using all-too-often overlooked history to tell important, engaging stories that challenge people’s notions of the past and change their perception of the present.
When not excavating my own stories, I run Magpie Projects, a boutique research consultancy specializing in developing dynamic, factually rigorous narratives for journalists, authors, and brands. Prior to founding Magpie in 2021, I spent three years in television production, directing research for all Alton Brown projects. Throughout my tenure, I’ve created compelling historical storylines through a variety of mediums: directing and producing a short documentary film, writing for public radio, and even developing communications strategies for community-driven nonprofits.
These days, when my eyes start to go blurry or the weight of history feels inescapable, I pick up my violin and try to learn a new fiddle tune.
