The James Beard Foundation named the southern foodways-framed journal their 2015 Publication of the Year.
Gravy is a journal helmed by the Southern Foodways Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to “documenting, studying, and celebrating the diverse food cultures of the changing American South.” The publication explores the depth of regional traditions while challenging readers to grapple with the implications of race, ethnicity, immigration, access to food, and land use. Essays, oral histories, academic research, and poetry are all showcased.
